His Perspective

Who says only women love romance? Men engage in the sacred dance just as willingly, with more passion at times.

I spent nearly a decade void of any genuine, meaningful, feminine touch, chatter, or even a smile I loved. That can drive any man insane. Now don’t get me wrong, I had a fill of women of this world, but I wanted a woman from another world. I wanted a woman I didn’t just connect with in the world, but a woman I could connect with in the Spirit.

There is a natural desire to love and be loved.

Paul advised us to marry and not burn like this. (1 Corinthians 7:9) What is a marriage without love? A binding agreement; a contract between two parties that lasts only until one grows tired of the other. There is much more to a sacred and holy marriage. God is, after all, everything sacred and holy. The union that He created between man and woman should then be set apart; sanctified. My image of a Christian marriage is built with the mortar of love, founded on the peace of Christ and heated with the joy of the Lord, which is our strength.

I had given up on any chance at love.

Being confined to a seven by twelve-foot cell, behind quarter-inch think steel bars, and surrounded by sixty foot walls, my opportunity at this kind of love was dim. BUT GOD, who is rich in mercy heard my cry. He brought me my hearts desire of a God-fearing, compassionate wife.

Everyone has their own unique story of how they met the love of their life. Our story is no different. Our romance began on a Christian festival in Attica Correctional Facility. We both were enjoying time with our respective families on a beautiful spring day in May. Her brother, who was a close friend of mine, introduced us. What an introduction it was.

I was greeted with the most beautiful set of eyes I had ever seen, and a smile that warmed my heart. She shook my hand with a firmness that was welcoming. I had been smitten at that very moment. My brother and I both joked with each other about how beautiful this angel was and who had the best chance at talking to her. We were both too nervous to initiate conversation with her so we continued to converse amongst ourselves, enjoying the worship music.

Later in the afternoon we found ourselves behind her. I could feel something pulling me to her. It was something greater than physical attraction. There was something peculiar about this woman. Something special that I wanted and could not go without. So I sparked up some small chit-chat. Nothing makes a better topic to discuss than Gods word. It was in this simple and innocent conversation about the goodness of God that I saw her true beauty. I saw that she was a woman after Gods own heart.

The spirit of God illuminated off of her and captured me. That was the beginning of our divine love. A love that knows no bounds. It is ever-growing and founded on the power of God.
